Language in the Quest for Utopia
Language reform and language creation have figured prominently among proposals for improving the human condition: examples include artificial languages for auxiliary communication, resurrected languages, vernacularized languages, amalgamated languages, newly independent languages, as well as negative creations such as Orwell’s Newspeak, invented as a warning. This seminar welcomes papers on any aspect of language creation or reform in the context of utopian or dystopian projects.
