The Science Fiction Film: Re-making, Revising, Re-envisioning
As science evolves, so must its artistic offspring, the science fiction film. One form of change is reversal: what once was coded as good/evil, hostile/friendly, even us/them is now being recoded in postmodern, even post-contemporary terms. This panel will analyze and critique this major film genre and re-assess the always-changing messages such films communicate. Theoretical interpretations are particularly invited, including but not limited to intertextuality, gender studies, psychoanalysis, marxism, post-colonial interpretation, response theory, and cultural studies. All inquiries welcome!
