Gadamer, speaking to the concerns of Derrida and Vattimo at Capri, mapped out the two dogmatic extremes that must be avoided in the discussion of religion: "On the one hand, both recognize that we need to be free of all dogmatism, above all that dogmatism which refuses to see in religion anything other than the deception or self-deception of human beings." Within what space, then, in a post-metaphysical discourse does the question of God exist? What space, if any, does it create? Between the poles of dogmatic atheism and dogmatic theism, on the bar of an a/theology, how does an openness to, a desire for, the tout autre, find expression and resist expression? Joining the discourse regarding the (dis)continuities between the syntax and projects of deconstruction and negative theology, this panel will explore the horizons of the religious question in a new millennium. Contributions contextualized in diverse chronoi and topoi are welcome.
