Gender in crime fiction
Women have figured in crime fiction in a number of different ways.  They are often authors, sometimes detectives and frequently victims of crime.  This seminar seeks to investigate more broadly the ways in which gender plays a role in crime fiction.  How does gender figure in crime plots?  Do male and female detectives operate differently?  Do homosexuality or trans-gendered characters introduce new plot elements?  Does cross dressing serve more than plot twists? How does gender identification complicate crime narrative? How do these issues play out across cultures?  How has consciousness of gender shifted across time?  We are interested in all aspects of the intersection of gender and crime fiction.
