Voice to Noise, Medieval to Modern Iberia

This seminar will explore notions of voice, inner and public, individual and common, in interdisciplinary fashion but centered on literary texts and practices of medieval and early modern Iberia. Possible conceptual threads are:
  •       inner voice, public speaking

  •       prayer, chant, song

  •       incantation and speaking in tongues

  •       vox populis, vox communis

  •       interruption and silencing

  •       interjection, onomatopeia, rumor, noise

  •       bilingualism, double-speak, code-switching
