The American Comparative Literature Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. We rely on memberships to support our operations to organize our annual conference which benefits over 3,000 scholars each year. Membership payments also go towards reserving future conference sites, publishing a conference program, and offering travel grants and registration waivers. 

Membership in ACLA brings with it many benefits and opportunities, including:

  • Participation in the Annual Meeting: Organize a seminar or present a paper in our annual conference, attend panels and workshops, and network with colleagues from around the world.
  • Online Resources: Access past conference proceedings, calls for papers, and special event information on our website.
  • Professional Development: Take advantage of professional development resources including job listings, grants, prize awards, & workshops aimed at graduate students, early-career faculty, and members in careers beyond the tenure track. ACLA members can also subscribe to the International Comparative Literature Association (ICLA) for a discounted rate of $10/year.   • Publications: Receive a 20% discount on subscriptions to our sponsored journal, Comparative Literature, from Duke University Press.
  • Shape ACLA: Vote in ACLA elections, run for office, and hold appointed board positions.

Please note: All conference presenters must be current in their ACLA membership in order to present at the Annual Conference. All stated amounts are in US dollars.
