ACLA prizes are open for submissions!

Aldridge Prize:
Co-presented with Comparative Literature Studies, the A. Owen Aldridge Prize encourages and recognizes excellence in scholarship among graduate students in comparative studies and rewards the highest achievement by publication.

Bernheimer Prize:
The Charles Bernheimer Prize goes to the best dissertation nominated by a department or program. The dissertation must have been defended in the year prior to July 1, 2026.

Presidential Prizes:
The Presidential Master's Prize goes to the best thesis, report, or substantial essay nominated by a department or program at any institution. The Presidential Undergraduate Prize goes to the best substantial essay nominated by a department or program.

Wellek Prizes:
The René Wellek Prizes recognize outstanding books in the discipline of comparative literature. Two prizes are awarded—one for a single- or co-authored monograph, and one for an edited essay collection.

Levin Prize:
The Harry Levin Prize recognizes an outstanding first book in the discipline of comparative literature. Fields may include literary or cultural theory or history, or any other field of comparative literature.

Tartar Subvention:
The Helen Tartar First Book Subvention Program is designed for ACLA-member authors who require subventions to ensure publication of their first books.
