Final Stop

Status:

Abstract

This seminar invites reflection on the question of how to think, represent, or respond to finality. With this, we have in mind a concern about end, exhaustion, or boundary that extends from ancient times to the current myriad paths toward total destruction. We are interested in different tones, forms, and framings of apocalypse, as well as how the threat of finality affects how we think about things such as humanity or life more broadly; subjectivity (individual and collective); politics and/or ethics; ideals of refuge, salvation, survival, or sovereignty; time, history, and the nature of the event; presence and absence; and scale. We welcome contributions focusing on literary studies, visual culture, and/or theory.
